DPCU represented at an ecumenical prayer for the election of the new Bishop of Rome

On the eve of the papal conclave, an online ecumenical prayer meeting was held to invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit upon the election of the new Bishop of Rome. The event, jointly organised by the World Council of Churches and the Taizé Community, brought together Christians from various traditions for a moment of solemn intercession and shared hope.

The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity was represented by Monsignor Andrzej Choromański, who offered a reflection during the prayer gathering. In his address, Monsignor Choromański acknowledged the profound ecumenical significance of this moment in the life of the Catholic Church. He recalled that, while the conclave is an internal event of the Catholic Church, its spiritual and symbolic impact resonates throughout the whole Body of Christ. He expressed sincere gratitude for the solidarity in prayer shown by Christians of different traditions, and emphasised the importance of listening together to the voice of the Holy Spirit.

In his reflection, he also highlighted that, although the Bishop of Rome is not recognised in the same way by all Christian communions, he is called to be a servant of unity and a witness to the Gospel. The prayer service stood as a powerful sign of this shared desire for unity, mutual support, and spiritual discernment in the life of the Church.
