DPCU at the presentation of the ‘New Testament. Ecumenical literary translation’

On Tuesday, 25 February, at the Waldensian Church in Piazza Cavour, Rome, Archbishop Flavio Pace, Secretary of the DPCU, and Monsignor Juan Usma Gómez, Head of the Western Section, took part in the launch of the New Testament. Ecumenical Literary Translation, the first translation of its kind.

The event was attended by representatives from nearly all Christian traditions in Italy, and a message sent for the occasion by Cardinal Kurt Koch was read. In addition to greetings from the leaders of the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church, and the Waldensian Table, as well as a representative of the United Bible Societies, the new translation was presented by Professor Don Luca Mazzinghi (Catholic) and Dr Mario Cignoni (Waldensian), respectively President and Secretary of the Italian Biblical Society, which coordinated the project.

Translators and reviewers from various Christian denominations contributed to this ecumenical translation, under the patronage of the Catholic Church (Italian Bishops’ Conference), the Orthodox Church (the Holy Orthodox Diocese of Italy – Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Italy), and the Evangelical Churches (Federation of Evangelical Churches in Italy, Waldensian Table, Board for the Evangelical Methodist Churches in Italy, Christian Evangelical Baptist Union of Italy, Evangelical Lutheran Churches in Italy, Salvation Army, Church of Scotland, Italian Apostolic Church, Federation of Pentecostal Churches, Evangelical Pentecostal Churches of the Valle del Sele and Irno, Assembly of Brethren in Florence, Christian Church La Gioia, Old Catholic Christian Churches, Italian Union of Seventh-day Adventist Christian Churches).
