Centro Melantone Ecumenical Training Course visits DPCU

On 14 October 2025, a group of Protestant teachers and pastors from Germany visited the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU) as part of an Ecumenical Training Course organised by the Centro Melantone in Rome. The participants were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Jochen Rexer, Tübingen/Heilbronn, and the Reverend Patrick Spitzenberger, Director of the Centro Melantone.

Father Dr. Augustinus Sander OSB, German DPCU official responsible for relations with Lutherans, gave an insight into the origins of the dicastery in the context of the Second Vatican Council and its current tasks. This was followed by a lively discussion in which the theological foundations of ecumenism and the various formats of ecumenical encounter were deepened.

According to the Centro Melantone's own description, "the aim of the course is to get to know the structures of the Roman Catholic Church and to learn about the history and life of the city of Rome as a religious center in Europe".
