Conference marks the 10th anniversary of the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church
From 5 to 8 October 2026, an international academic conference entitled “The Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church” was held in Chantilly, France. The event was organised by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to mark the tenth anniversary of the Council of Crete.
The symposium, which was opened by an address delivered by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, examined the various documents of the Council, bringing together speakers from the Orthodox Church as well as representatives of the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion and the World Council of Churches.
The conference concluded on 8 October with a round-table discussion chaired by Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, in which His Beatitude John, Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, was among the participants.
On 6 October, Rev. Fr Hyacinthe Destivelle OP, Official of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, delivered a paper entitled “The Encyclical and the Message of the Holy and Great Council: A Catholic Perspective”.
