The Holy Father receives Metropolitan Joseph Mar Barnabas of Mar Thoma Church

On Thursday 2 July, Pope Leo XIV received in a private audience His Grace Joseph Mar Barnabas, Suffragan Metropolitan of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, who was accompanied by Reverend Arun Thomas Abraham.

After the audience, the delegation was received at the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity by Archbishop Flavio Pace, Secretary, and Reverend Father Hyacinthe Destivelle, official responsible for relations with the Oriental Orthodox Churches.

In 2023, a theological dialogue was initiated with the Mar Thoma Church, an Oriental Reformed Church with which the Catholic Church has engaged in fraternal relations since the Second Vatican Council.
