150th Anniversary of Church of St Paul within the Walls, Rome
2026 marks the 150th anniversary of the church of St Paul within the Walls in Rome. Situated on Via Napoli, the church belongs to the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe (Anglican Communion) and was consecrated in 1876. To mark this significant anniversary, the clergy of the convocation, led by their bishop, Mark Edington, held their annual assembly in Rome. On Wednesday 24 June, the group attended the General Audience of the Holy Father in St Peter’s Square. Bishop Edington had the opportunity to greet Pope Leo personally after the audience. The clergy also had a group photo with the Pope.
On Thursday 25 June, as part of the clergy conference programme, Revd Fr Martin Browne OSB, the Dicastery Official responsible for relations with Anglicans, participated in a panel discussion in the church about ecumenism, where he spoke about recent developments in Anglican-Catholic relationships. The celebrations concluded on the evening of Friday 26 June, with a festive liturgy of Evening Prayer.
