Cardinal Koch visits the Lutheran World Federation

On 14 January 2026, Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU), accompanied by Archbishop Flavio Pace, Secretary of the DPCU, and Fr Dr Augustinus Sander OSB, DPCU Official responsible for relations with Lutherans, visited the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Geneva.

During the annual staff meeting with LWF General Secretary, Revd Dr Anne Burghardt, and Assistant General Secretary for Ecumenical Relations, Prof. Dr Dirk Lange, participants reviewed the ecumenical activities of the LWF and the DPCU over the past year and then focused on the upcoming 500th anniversary of the Confessio Augustana in 2030. To mark this occasion, a joint Catholic–Lutheran statement is planned, highlighting the ecumenical potential of the Augsburg Confession.
