In Memoriam Father Kilian McDonnell, OSB

Father Kilian McDonnell, OSB, died on 8 September 2025. The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity expresses its sympathy and joins the Benedictine monastic community of Saint John's Abbey, Collegeville, Minnesota, USA, in prayer.

Fr McDonnell was known for his passion for unity, and was recognised as a personal mentor by Christians from different traditions. Born in 1921, Fr McDonnell served on various official bilateral, international and national dialogue commissions. His role as co-chair of the Catholic-Pentecostal International Dialogue from 1972 to 2000 was pivotal, inspiring academic research and ecumenical development.
