In Memoriam Revd Dr Peter Cruchley
The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity has received with deep sadness the news of the passing of Revd Dr Peter Cruchley, Director of the Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME) of the World Council of Churches (WCC).
Pastor of the United Reformed Church in the United Kingdom, Revd Dr Cruchley was a dedicated missionary and a committed ecumenist. Through his leadership of the CWME, he gave powerful witness to a vision of Christian mission rooted in justice, reconciliation, and healing. His efforts on behalf of the poor, the marginalized, and those whose voices are often unheard remain an enduring legacy to the entire ecumenical movement.
Upon learning of his death, Cardinal Kurt Koch sent a letter of condolences to Revd Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, General Secretary of the WCC, expressing solidarity with the WCC fellowship and with Dr Cruchley’s family and colleagues.
The Dicastery commends Revd Dr Peter Cruchley to the mercy of the Lord, in the firm hope of the Resurrection, and assures his family, colleagues, and the WCC fellowship of its prayers for consolation and peace.
