In Memoriam Mar Aprem Mooken

The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity was deeply saddened to learn of the death of His Grace Dr Mar Aprem Mooken, Patriarchal Delegate and former Metropolitan of India and the Southern Gulf Countries of the Assyrian Church of the East.

A dedicated pastor of the Church of the East in India for over 50 years and a distinguished scholar in Syriac studies, His Grace Dr Mar Aprem Mooken played a vital role in fostering ecumenical relations, particularly with the Catholic Church.

On this sorrowful occasion, Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for promoting Christian Unity, sent a letter of condolence to His Holiness Mar Awa III, Catholicos-Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, and to His Beatitude Mar Awgin Kuriakose, Metropolitan of India and the Southern Gulf Countries.
