In Memoriam Mons. John A. Radano
The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity mourns the death of Monsignor John A. Radano. Originally from the United States, he was an Official at the Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity (SPUC), which later became the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPUC) and is now a Dicastery. He began working there in 1984. He was appointed Head of the Western Section in 1985. Following his service to the Holy See, which ended in 2008, he taught at Seton Hall University in Newark.
A committed ecumenist, Monsignor Radano participated in numerous bilateral and multilateral dialogues, both nationally and internationally. In particular, he was responsible for relations with the Reformed and Baptist Churches within the PCPUC, and played an active role in the Catholic-Pentecostal and Catholic-Mennonite dialogues, as well as in the Catholic-Lutheran dialogue and in consultations with the World Evangelical Alliance. He was also a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Joint Working Group between the Catholic Church and the WCC. He edited the PCPUC's Information Service bulletin (now Acta Œcumenica) for several years. He was also the author of numerous publications on ecumenism.
