Candler School of Theology Student Visit

On Monday 26 May 2025, a student group from Candler School of Theology in the United States of America visited the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. Founded as a Methodist seminary within Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, nowadays, Candler School of Theology also prepares candidates for ordination in the Anglican and Baptist traditions, as well as offering specialised programmes in Catholic Theology.

The students, led by the Revd Dr Jennifer R Ayres, Professor of Religious Education and the Rev Dr Arun Jones, Director of the World Methodist Evangelism Institute, were participating in a two-week study visit to Italy focused on migration and religion. They were received at the Dicastery by the Revd Fr Martin Browne OSB, official responsible for relations with Methodism, who presented an outline of the work of the Dicastery, with particular reference to the Joint International Commission for Dialogue between the World Methodist Council and the Catholic Church (MERCIC). The Revd Matthew Laferty, Director of the Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome, accompanied the group.
