Conference of Cardinal Koch in Rawalpindi
From 26 to 28 March 2025, Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, visited Pakistan to take part in an Ecumenical Conference organised by the Christian Study Centre in Rawalpindi (Diocese of Islamabad-Rawalpindi), marking the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea. Cardinal Koch delivered the keynote address, entitled “The Council of Nicaea – A Unifying Moment in the Life of the Early Church and Its Continuing Impact on the Diverse Realities of the Present-Day Church.”
The event brought together theologians, scholars, and Christian leaders from various traditions. Among the other speakers were Rowan Williams, Archbishop Emeritus of Canterbury, and Anba Angaelos, Coptic Orthodox Bishop of London. The Christian Study Centre is led by Bishop Samuel Azariah of the Church of Pakistan (Anglican Communion).
During his visit, Cardinal Koch met with numerous representatives of different Christian denominations, as well as with figures from religious institutions.
