Visit of Ecumenical Church Leaders Group from East Anglia, England

21 Jan 2025

The leadership group of Churches Together in Norfolk and Waveney in the East of England undertook a joint pilgrimage to Rome from 13 to 17 January 2025. The group is made up of the leaders of the Quaker, Methodist, United Reformed, Baptist, Anglican and Catholic communities and of the Salvation Army in the region. Five of the seven members of the leadership group took part in the pilgrimage, along with some officials, including the County Ecumenical Officer.

The pilgrimage included guided visits to the Basilicas of St Peter and St Paul, and, on Wednesday 15 January, participation in the General Audience held by Pope Francis. On Thursday 16 January, the group visited the offices of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity. They were received by Fr Martin Browne OSB, official of the Western Section, who provided an introduction to the work of the Dicastery, after which a wide-ranging discussion of topics of ecumenical interest took place.
