Meeting of the Synodal Study Group No. 10

14 Oct 2024

On 12 October 2024, the Synodal Study Group responsible for reflecting on ecumenical issues convened in the Vatican.

Following the first session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, it was decided that certain themes would be examined in greater depth by specific study groups, coordinated jointly by the General Secretariat of the Synod and the various Dicasteries of the Roman Curia.

One of these study groups (No. 10), coordinated by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the General Secretariat of the Synod, is tasked with reflecting on the theme “The Reception of the Fruits of the Ecumenical Journey in Ecclesial Practices,” focusing particularly on the following topics:

- In the light of the theological dialogues, and paying attention to the concrete ecclesial repercussions, to deepen the mutual interdependence between synodality and primacy at the different ecclesial levels with particular reference to the "way of understanding the Petrine ministry in the service of unity" (Synthesis Report 7.h), as advocated by St John Paul II in the Encyclical Ut unum sint;

- An in-depth study from a theological, canonical and pastoral point of view of the question of Eucharistic hospitality (communicatio in sacris), in the light of the link between sacramental and ecclesial communion, with particular reference to the experience and ecumenical significance of interchurch couples and families (cf. RdS 7i);

- An in-depth and open reflection "on the phenomenon of 'non-denominational' communities and 'revival' movements of Christian inspiration" (Charismatic/Pentecostal) (RdS 7j).

The members of the Group include: H.E. Msgr Paul Rouhana (Lebanon/DPUC), Sr Nathalie Becquart (General Secretariat of the Synod), Revd Anthony Currer (United Kingdom), Revd Hyacinthe Destivelle OP, Revd Lawrence Iwuamadi (Nigeria/Switzerland), Prof. Astrid Kaptijn (Switzerland/The Netherlands), Prof. Teresa Francesca Rossi (Italy), Revd Jorge Alejandro Scampini OP (Argentina), and Msgr Juan Usma Gómez.
