26 Sep 2024

On Tuesday 24 September at 6 p.m. an academic act on ‘Canon law, ecumenism and synodality’ was held at the Angelicum (See video).

Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, introduced the event with the presentation of the book Listening to the West. Synodality in Western Ecclesial Tradition, recently published by the Libreria Editrice Vaticana.

Professor Norman Doe, Director of the Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff University, gave an academic lecture entitled ‘Canon Law, Ecumenism, and Synodality’, to which Sr Nathalie Becquart, xmcj, Under-Secretary of the General Secretariat of the Synod, responded with ‘Catholic Learnings’. This lecture opened the 23rd Colloquium of Anglican and Roman Catholic Canon Lawyers, which will be held this year at the Angelicum on the theme of ‘Canon Law and Synodality’.

The event, which takes place a few days before the second session of the Synod of Bishops on synodality, was organised by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies and the Faculty of Canon Law at the Angelicum as part of the 2024-2025 Tillard Chair.
