Participation of the Pontifical Council at the meeting of Catholic Eastern Bishops in Europe
From 12 to 14 September, the meeting of Catholic Eastern Bishops in Europe on the theme "The Ecumenical Mission of the Eastern Catholic Churches of Europe today" took place in Rome, at the Pontifical Ukrainian College of St. josaphat. The programme of the meeting was prepared by the Council of Episcopal Conferences of Europe (CCEE) and the Greek-Catholic Church of Ukraine, in collaboration with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
In addition to the Catholic Eastern Bishops the meeting was attended by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco, President of the CCEE, Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the PCPCU, and Major Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk of Kyiv-Halich.
Cardinal Kurt Koch delivered a paper on the "Models for the Renewal of Church Unity." Revd. Hyacinthe Destivelle, OP, Official of the PCPCU, read a report on "The Declaration of Havana and the prospects of its pastoral application in Europe".
Other speakers were Msgr Markus Graulich, SDB, Undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, Msgr Ivan Dacko, President of the Ecumenical Institute of the Catholic University of Lviv, Revd. Fr. Frans Bouwen, M. Afr., member of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, and Revd. Fr. Thomas Pott, OSB, Consultant of the PCPCU.
