In memoriam His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I

The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity has learned with sorrow the news of the death of His Beatitude Mor Baselios Thomas I, Catholicos of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church.

On this occasion, Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery, sent a letter of condolence to His Beatitude Mor Gregorios Joseph, Metropolitan of the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church.

Autonomous within the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch, the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church has been engaged in a fruitful bilateral dialogue with the Catholic Church since 1990. In December 2022, a delegation from the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity paid a courtesy visit to Catholicos Mor Baselios Thomas I.
