Pope Francis receives the Archbishop of Uppsala

On 2 May 2024, Pope Francis received the Lutheran Archbishop of Uppsala and Primate of the Church of Sweden, Most Rev. Dr Martin Modéus, in audience. Archbishop Modéus was accompanied by his wife, Mrs Marianne Langby Modéus, Rev Karin Sarja, Head of the Department for Church Life, and his chaplain Rev Fredrik Lidé.

On 3 May 2024, Archbishop Modéus and his delegation were guests at the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU). In a conversation with Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the DPCU, they discussed the ecclesial and ecumenical situation in Sweden as well as questions of international Catholic-Lutheran dialogue.

Father Dr Augustinus Sander OSB, DPCU staff member for relations with the Lutherans, also took part in the meeting.
