30 Jun 2023

From 24-29 June, the International Commission for Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Disciples of Christ held its second meeting of the sixth phase of dialogue in Rome on the theme "The Holy Spirit as Gift." The overall theme of the sixth phase is "The Ministry of the Spirit" (2 Cor 3).

Three papers were presented during the meeting in Rome on the topic of "The Holy Spirit as Gift" from biblical studies and theological reflections. As stated in the communiqué, quoting the Catholic co-chair, "We agreed that all work toward Christian unity is truly the work of the Holy Spirit and our mutual cooperation with the Holy Spirit is essential for building bridges of understanding and cooperation in revealing the kingdom of God already in our midst."

The Commission is co-chaired by Bishop David Ricken, Diocese of Green Bay, USA, and Revd Newell Williams, Fort Worth, USA, and assisted by Revd Paul Tché (DECC) and Msgr Juan Usma (DPUC) as co-secretaries.

On 27 June, Commission members visited the DPUC headquarters where they briefed Cardinal Kurt Koch on their work. The Commission also attended Mass at St. Peter's Papal Basilica on Sunday, 25 June and Thursday, 29 June for the patronal feast of the Church of Rome.

On June 28, the commission was received by Pope Francis in a private audience.

The last meeting of the commission was in June 2022 in Kentucky (United States).
