“Listening to the East” ‒ Symposium on synodality in the Oriental Orthodox Churches
Following the first conference on synodality in the Orthodox Church, the “Listening to the East” symposium continues with a second conference on the different Oriental Orthodox traditions, to be held at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas of Aquinas (Angelicum) on the initiative of the Pro Oriente Foundation (Vienna) and the Institute for Ecumenical institute for Ecumenical Studies of the Angelicum under the patronage of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops.
The first part, on 23 and 24 November, will look at synodality in the Syriac tradition and will be inaugurated on Wednesday 23 November at 6.00pm by His Holiness Patriarch Awa II, Catholicos Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East, with the participation of Cardinals Koch and Grech.
The second part, on 25 and 26 November, will look at synodality in the Oriental Orthodox Churches, with the participation of over 50 Oriental Orthodox theologians, among whom His Grace Kyrillos, Co‒President of the Joint Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches. The conference will be inaugurated by His Eminence Khajag Barsamian, Representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church to the Holy See (Catholicossate of Etchmiadzin), with the participation of Cardinal Koch and Bishop Luis Marín de San Martín, Under‒Secretary of the Synod of Bishops.
