New book to mark 60th anniversary of Pontifical Council
A book entitled “In cammino verso l'unità - 60° anniversario del Pontificio Consiglio per la Promozione dell’Unità dei Cristiani” [On the Way Towards Unity: 60th Anniversary of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity] has just been published by the PCPCU in its new series “Ut unum sint” of the Libreria Editrice Vaticana.
Offering an overview of the path undertaken during this time in the relations between the Catholic Church and other Churches and Ecclesial Communities, in particular in theological dialogue, the text brings together different articles published in L’Osservatore Romano in June 2020. These articles are supplemented by other documents relating to the origin and history of the Pontifical Council.
As Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the PCPCU, wrote in his preface, “This overview brings to light the steps taken in these few decades to heal wounds spanning centuries and millennia. During these sixty years, the different Christian communions have acquired a more authentic understanding of each other and a greater mutual respect, and have grown in the dialogue of charity and of truth, as well as in various forms of cooperation in what can be called the dialogue of life”.
The publication is a useful instrument for all who are interested in ecumenical relations and have at heart the journey of Christians towards full unity. May they perceive with renewed urgency the call of the Lord “that the world may believe” (Jn 17:21).
