Online meeting of Pro Oriente Commission for Ecumenical Encounter between Oriental Orthodox Churches and Catholic Church

7 Dec 2021

The fourth meeting of the Commission for Ecumenical Encounter (CEE) between the Oriental Orthodox Churches and the Catholic Church was held online on 7 December.

The meeting gathered theologians of the Catholic Church and various Oriental Orthodox Churches (Syrian Orthodox Church, Armenian Apostolic Church‒See of Etchmiadzin, Coptic Orthodox Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church) and provided an opportunity to discuss the current situation of the different Churches, as well as to reflect on the ecumenical dimension of the synodal process of the Catholic Church and a possible contribution of the CEE.

Reverend Hyacinthe Destivelle, staff member of the Eastern Section, represented the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity as an observer.

The CEE comprises representatives of the Catholic Church and each of the Oriental Orthodox Churches, as well as observers and consultants. It was established in Vienna in November 2015 to promote informal academic exchange between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches.
