Cardinal Koch sends message to WCRC Executive Committee Meeting

28 May 2021

The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) held its Executive Committee meeting from 25–28 May on the theme “At such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). The meeting was organized online due to the limitations imposed by the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council, sent an official greeting to the General Secretary, Reverend Dr Chris Ferguson, and the Executive Committee members of the WCRC. The message was presented by Reverend Avelino A. Gonzalez-Ferrer, official of the Pontifical Council, participating in the Executive Committee meeting as an ecumenical guest.

The WCRC meets during a time of transition, putting in place an interim plan of leadership since General Secretary Chris Ferguson’s term of service will end on 31 August 2021. A “collegial general secretariat” will direct the work of the WCRC during a year-long interim period, beginning 1 September. The secretariat will be made up of three regional executive secretaries who will reach decisions through consensus, while coordinating work in their particular areas of responsibility. Reverend Dr Hanns Lessing (Evangelical Church of Westphalia) was designated as “acting general secretary” from 1 September 2021.
