Virtual plenary meeting of the Joint Working Group

16 Apr 2021

The Joint Working Group (JWG) between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches (WCC) held an online plenary meeting on 12-14 April 2021. The agenda included an exchange of information on the recent activities of both partners, sharing on the life of churches during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as discussion on the Final Report on the work of the JWG as it approaches the end of its tenth mandate.

An important time was dedicated to discussing the two study documents “Peace is a Treasure for All – An Ecumenical Reflection on Peace Building in Situations of Conflict and Violence” and “Migrants and Refugees – Ecumenical Challenges and Opportunities”. Both documents have been finalized and formally received by the JWG and are now to be presented to the parent bodies.

A communiqué was published at the end of the meeting.

Established in 1965 as one of the first fruits of the Second Vatican Council, over the years the JWG has continued to be an important instrument in promoting the ecumenical collaboration between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches.
