2021 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Rome

As in other years, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Rome will be celebrated from 18-25 January, but with restrictions due to the pandemic.

The Holy Father Francis will preside over the Second Vespers of the Solemnity of the Conversion of Saint Paul the Apostle at the conclusion of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity on Monday 25 January at 5.30 pm in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls with the participation of representatives of the other Christian communities in Rome and Italy. While public attendance will be reserved to a limited number of people, the celebration will be broadcast live on the Vatican News website.

Sunday 17 January

5.30 pm (Rome time)

Bringing Voices Together - Ecumenical prayer vigil organized by the Methodist Ecumenical Office in Rome, the Centro Pro Unione and the Anglican Centre in Rome. Meditation guided by Reverend Matthew Laferty, Father James Puglisi and Archbishop Ian Ernest.

Sunday 17 January

6.30 pm.

Santa Maria dell'Anima (Via di Santa Maria dell'Anima, 64) - Ecumenical Vespers with homily by Pastor Dr Michael Jonas (Lutheran Evangelical Church in Rome) (German language).

 

Monday 18 January

From 18-25 January, the Lay Center at Foyer Unitas is offering a series of guided meditations by former students and friends of the Center. See the programmeRegister here.

 

Monday 18 January

6.00 pm.

The Waldensian Community of Via IV Novembre will be guests of the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls for a public worship. The homily will be delivered by Pastor Emanuele Fiume.

 

Wednesday 20 January

7.30 pm (Rome time)

Ecumenical vigil of the Diocese of Rome at the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere presided over by Bishop Paolo Selvadagi, Diocesan Delegate for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue. Homily to be given by Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Representative of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Rome.

Challenges and Possibilities for Facilitating Dialogue - Lecture of Professor Myriam Wijlens, Professor of Canon Law at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Erfurt, Germany, and member of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors.
