Mass for 60th anniversary of Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity

9 Jun 2020

On Friday 5 June, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity celebrated the 60th anniversary of its foundation with a Mass presided over by its President, Cardinal Kurt Koch, in the Chapel of Our Lady Queen of the Family in the Governorate of the Vatican.

In the presence of all the officials of the dicastery concelebrating the event and the lay staff attending, Cardinal Koch recalled in his homily [IT] that unity is a fundamental category of the Christian faith and is an essential note of the Church, so much so that the Christian faith would renounce itself if it ceased to seek unity. The search for unity, which is today exposed to "strong headwinds", has made us discover that it is above all an exchange of gifts from which all Christian communities, large and small, emerge enriched and strengthened.

The 60th anniversary offered the opportunity to give thanks to all those who have worked at the Pontifical Council or have collaborated with it over the years, and who have devoted their time, their intellect, and especially their lives to the service of Christian unity.
