THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE
NEW CHARISMATIC CHURCHES

REFLECTIONS OF REPRESENTATIVES OF
NEW CHARISMATIC CHURCHES IN CONVERSATIONS
WITH THE PONTIFICAL COUNCIL FOR PROMOTING CHRISTIAN UNITY

A series of Preliminary Conversations between a group of leaders of the New Charismatic Churches [NCC] and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity took place in the Vatican (2008, 2009, 2012) at the request of the participants in the encounters called “A Gathering in the Holy Spirit” co-sponsored by the Centro Pro Unione and some Non-Denominational leaders. At the end of this preliminary phase, it was agreed to have a round of Conversations starting in 2014 to explore their identity and self-understanding (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018). The current document entitled “The Characteristics of the New Charismatic Churches” is the result of the reflections and exchanges of the NCC’s participants in the Conversations, in consultation with many other representatives around the world. It is the first attempt to describe themselves in a dialogical context. It is not an ecumenical document, but it is intended to help and encourage relations between Catholics and New-Charismatic leaders around the world.
