Various Groups from Germany visit the DPCU

1 Feb 2024

In recent weeks a number of German groups interested in ecumenism visited the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU): on 10 October, Lutheran pastors from the district of Nuremberg-North, led by Dean Jonas Schiller; on 11 October, the Commandery of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre "Thomas Morus" from Essen; on 13 October, journalists from the ARD/ZDF Media Academy; on 18 October, the Evangelical Lutheran Deanery of Neustadt/Aisch, led by Dean Ursula Brecht; on 19 October, a group of pilgrims from the Archdiocese of Paderborn, accompanied by Msgr Konrad Schmidt.

Father Augustinus Sander, OSB, staff member responsible for relations with Lutherans, gave an introduction to the history, structure and current tasks of the DPCU. This was followed by a stimulating discussion on the different contexts and perceptions of Catholic-Lutheran ecumenism. In particular, the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea in 2025 was highlighted as an opportunity for a common Christ-centred witness to faith.
