XXIII Orientale Lumen Conference in Washington

The XXIII Orientale Lumen Conference on the theme “One City, One Bishop: Church Boundaries, Past, Present and Future” was held in Washington from 17–20 June 2019.

Speakers included Archbishop Boris Gudziak (Philadelphia), Bishop John Michael Botean (Canton), Reverend Andriy Dudchenko (Kyiv), Reverend John Erickson (St Vladimir’s Theological Seminary, New York), Dr Daniel Galadza (Kyiv), Dr Will Cohen (Scranton University), Professor Adam DeVille (University of St Francis, Fort Wayne), Dr Anastasia Wooden (Catholic University of America, Washington).

Cardinal Koch sent a message to Mr Jack Figel, President of the Orientale Lumen Foundation in which he outlined some current issues posed by the eighth canon of the Council of Nicaea (325). Reverend Hyacinthe Destivelle, who represented the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, gave a presentation on the theme “The Territory: An Ecumenical Challenge”.

On 20 June, Reverend Destivelle visited the Secretariat for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, where he was received by the new Executive Director, Reverend Walter F. Kedjierski, as well as by Reverend Ronald Roberson and Professor Anthony Cirelli, Associate Directors.
