Visit to Rome of Reverend Olav Fykse Tveit

17 Dec 2019

On Friday 13 December 2019 Reverend Olav Fykse Tveit, Secretary General of the World Council of Churches, held a lecture entitled "Ut unum sint: Between Winter and Spring, Reality and Prophecy. 1995-2020" at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

Calling to mind the metaphor of ecumenical winter and spring, Reverend Fykse Tveit highlighted the vitality of the ecumenical movement and its contemporary relevance: "When Pope Francis was visiting Geneva on 21 June 2018, he spoke no more of winter, but said he looked forward to the "flowering of a new ecumenical spring".

The lecture was organized by the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the Angelicum within the context of the Tillard Chair cycle of lectures 2019-2020 dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the encyclical Ut unum sint (1995).

On the same day Reverend Fykse Tveit met with Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.
