Theological Dialogue between the Baptist World Alliance and the Pontifical Council held in Warsaw

17 Dec 2019

The third meeting of the third phase of the international dialogue between the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (PCPCU) took place 9-13 December 2019 in Warsaw, Poland. The meeting was hosted by the Baptist Union of Poland at the Warsaw Baptist Theological Seminary. The dialogue took up the theme of “Challenges to Common Witness,” giving attention to contemporary circumstances in church and society that represent not only challenges faced by Baptists and Catholics in fulfilling their summons to offer common witness to Christ, but also opportunities for bearing witness to the gospel together. A communiqué was issued at the conclusion of the meeting. Reverend Avelino Gonzalez, Official of the PCPCU, attended the meeting as Co–Secretary.

Included in the week of ecumenical conversations was an opening worship service featuring representatives from the Polish Ecumenical Council and the Polish Evangelical Alliance, as well as a meeting with Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz of the Archdiocese of Warsaw. The fourth meeting will be on the theme “Forms of Common Witness” and will be held in Rome, Italy, in December 2020.
