Visit of delegation of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church

On 23 July 2019 Cardinal Kurt Koch received a delegation of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church at the office of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. The delegation comprised Bishop Abba Heryacos of the Ethiopian Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy, France, Belgium, Greece and Turkey, together with Reverends Abba Tigistu Gizahew (parish of the Holy Trinity of Mount Canaan in Rome), Abba Melate Tsehay Ghebre Tinsae Hailu (parish priest of the Ethiopian Orthodox community at the Church of Saints Joachim and Anne in Monti), and Abba Ermias Gedlu (parish of Udine).

The meeting offered the opportunity to recall the visit to the Vatican of His Holiness Abuna Matthias I, Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, on 29 February 2016, as well as to discuss the situation of the Ethiopian Orthodox communities in Rome and Italy.
