In memoriam H.E. Bishop Dimitrios Salachas

Bishop Dimitrios Salachas, Emeritus Apostolic Exarch for the Catholics of Byzantine Rite living in Greece, died on  October 16, 2023, at the age of 84.

Prior to his episcopal election, Bishop Salachas taught Eastern canon law in Bari, Rome and Paris, and was a consultant to the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity from 1979 to 2019. He was also a member of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church from its creation in 1979 to until 2022.

For his expertise in Eastern canon law and his sincere openness to dialogue, Bishop Salachas has always been respected in both the Catholic and ecumenical worlds.
