Pope Francis meets Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem

On 29 September 2023, the Holy Father received His Beatitude Theophilos III, Greek-Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, in private audience. Patriarch Theophilos was in Rome for the Consistory in which His Beatitude Pierbattista Pizzaballa, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, was created Cardinal.

In his address, Patriarch Theophilos expressed gratitude to Pope Francis for his support of the Christian presence in the Middle East, and underlined the readiness of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem “to assist in any way that we can to help bring an end to conflict and suffering”.
