Academic Session on “Thomism and Protestantism”

The 21st Plenary Session of the Pontifical Academy of St Thomas (PAST) was held on 9-10 June 2023 in the headquarters and under the patronage of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity on the topic “Thomism and Protestantism”.

In his welcoming address, Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the DPCU, made reference to the ecumenical relevance of the methodology and hermeneutical principles of St Thomas, particularly in the theological dialogue with the Reformed tradition.

The session was presided over by Revd Fr Serge-Thomas Bonino OP, President of the PAST, and was attended by about thirty people, members of the Pontifical Academy of St Thomas and experts from various Reformed traditions.

Msgr Juan Usma Gómez, Head of the Western Section of the DPCU, gave the closing address on the theme of “The recourse to Thomas Aquinas in Catholic-Protestant bilateral theological dialogues”.
