In memoriam Abune Kerlos I

It is with sadness that the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity has learned of the death of his Holiness Abune Kerlos, Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church, on Friday 2 December 2022.

Born in 1928, Abune Kerlos was ordained as Bishop of Adi Keyh in 1994 by Coptic Patriarch Shenouda III. On 13 May 2021 he was elected as Patriarch of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery, sent a letter to the Holy Synod, expressing his condolences to all the faithful of the Eritrean Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
