Pope Francis evokes ecumenical dimension of his visit to Bahrain at general audience

10 Nov 2022

On Wednesday 9 November in his catechesis during the general audience held in Saint Peter’s Square, Pope Francis reflected on the ecumenical aspect of his recent apostolic journey to Bahrain. The Holy Father mentioned firstly that his initial encounter during the journey had been an ecumenical prayer for peace together with the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the faithful of various confessions and rites. He continued by saying that the Christians he had met in Bahrain were often immigrant labourers who discover “their roots in the People of God and their family within the larger family of the Church […] and who gather and support each other in the faith”. The Holy Father concluded, “Meeting each other and praying together, we felt we were of one heart and one soul. […] Open your hearts because we are all brothers and sisters and so that this human fraternity might move ahead”.
