In memoriam Archbishop Emeritus Mario Conti

Archbishop Emeritus Mario Conti of Glasgow passed away on 8 November. Entrusting him to God’s merciful love, the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity recalls his untiring commitment and precious ecumenical witness both in the local context of Churches Together in England and Wales, and at the international level. During the pontificate of Saint John Paul II, Archbishop Conti was a member of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. He also served two mandates as Catholic Co‒Moderator of the Joint Working Group (JWG) between the Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches. During his leadership from 1998 to 2005, the JWG published various documents on Councils of Churches, the ecumenical and ecclesiological implications of common baptism, the nature and purpose of ecumenical dialogue.
