In memoriam His Beatitude Chrysostomos II

It is with sadness that the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity has learned of the death on 7 November of His Beatitude Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of Nea Giustiniana and All Cyprus, who had guided the Orthodox Church of Cyprus since his election in 2006.

Pope Francis met with His Beatitude in December 2021 during his apostolic journey to Cyprus and Greece. During that visit, Pope Francis expressed his gratitude for the openness of heart and commitment of Archbishop Chrysostomos II to promoting dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox.
