75th anniversary German National Committee of LWF

7 Oct 2022

On 7 October 2022, the German National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (DNK/LWF) together with the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) celebrated the 75th anniversary of the two organisations. The event, attended by numerous guests from the ecumenical movement, society and politics, took place at Wartburg Castle near Eisenach (Germany). Reverend Father Augustinus Sander, OSB, staff member responsible for relations with the Lutherans, represented the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU).

In the greeting of Cardinal Kurt Koch, which was included in a collection of written greetings published for the occasion entitled “75 Jahre im Dienst der lutherischen Weltgemeinschaft”, the Prefect of the DPCU emphasised the ecumenical significance of the Augsburg Confession: “The 500th anniversary of the Confessio Augustana in 2030 could be an occasion for Catholics and Lutherans worldwide to rediscover the initially pre-confessional significance of the Augsburg Confession and to develop its ecumenical potential further. The German National Committee would certainly have a worthwhile task here in communicating the initiatives planned in this regard by the Lutheran World Federation and our Dicastery in the local context.”
