Catholic delegation at 11th WCC Assembly in Karlsruhe

2 Sep 2022

An official delegation led by Cardinal Kurt Koch, Prefect of the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, is currently representing the Holy See at the 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches in Karlsruhe. The delegation is composed of 20 “delegated observers”, including lay and ordained, women and men from different regions of the world.

The “delegated observers” are those who are appointed by a church or other Christian organisation which are not members of the WCC, upon the invitation of the Secretary General. They have the right to attend and to speak at all sessions of the Assembly, including administrative plenaries, without however taking part in the decision making processes.

The Holy See has sent a group of “delegated observers” since the third Assembly in New Delhi in 1961 without interruption.
