On 22 June, an international delegation of the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) met with Pope Francis to offer a facsimile of an original text of Adolf Hitler dated 1919 espousing the destruction of the Jewish people. The document was presented by delegation leaders, Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and CEO, and Dawn Arnall, Chair of the Board of Trustees. The original is kept in the SWC’s Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.
Accepting the document, Pope Francis reiterated his condemnation of anti-Semitism and stressed the importance of recalling history so it can be of service to the future. In this perspective, Pope Francis urged the SWC to continue to serve as a bridge between the past and the future.
Pope Francis's last meeting with a delegation of the Simon Wiesenthal Center was on 20 January 2020.
