Visit of President Dr Christian Schad

On 11 May, the new President of the "Evangelischer Bund" and also Church President Emeritus of the "Evangelische Kirche der Pfalz", Dr h.c. Christian Schad, visited the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

The discussion with Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the PCPCU, which was also attended by Pastor Martin Bräuer from the "Konfessionskundliches Institut Bensheim" and Father Augustinus Sander, OSB, staff member of the PCPCU, focused on current topics and challenges of national and international ecumenism. In particular, the 1700th jubilee of the Council of Nicaea in 2025 and the 500th anniversary of the Augsburg Confession in 2030 were addressed.

President Schad is also the episcopal leader of the Protestant part of the Ecumenical Working Group of Protestant and Catholic Theologians (ÖAK), which published the statement "Together at the Lord's Table".
