Start of dialogue between Catholic Church and Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe

On 28 April 2022, the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe published a joint press release on their first dialogue meeting which took place in Basel (Switzerland) from 19-21 April.

The dialogue, the inauguration of which was decided in 2018 and which was the subject of a preliminary meeting in September 2021, aims to draw up a document with the provisional title "Auf dem Weg zu einem gemeinsamen Verständnis von Kirche Vergewisserung, Vertiefung, Ausblick" ["Towards a common understanding of the Church. Confrontations, insights, perspectives"]. This first session made it possible to establish first contacts, to identify subjects to be treated more precisely and to agree on next steps.
