In memoriam Bishop Youhanna Golta

It is with sadness that the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity has learned of the death on 15 February of Bishop Youhanna Golta, Emeritus Auxiliary Bishop of Alexandria of the Copts.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Dicastery, sent a letter to His Beatitude Ibrahim Isaac Sidrak, Patriarch of Alexandria of the Copts, expressing his most sincere condolences to the Coptic Catholic Church and to the family of the deceased, as well as to all the staff of the Patriarchal Curia where Bishop Golta had long served in his distinguished ministry.

The Pontifical Council expresses gratitude for the ecumenical commitment of Bishop Golta, particularly within the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Churches, of which he was an active and valued member since its foundation in 2003.
