An online meeting of the ‘Forum Syriacum’ promoted by the Pro Oriente Foundation was held on 18 November 2021.
The meeting presided by Professor Dietmar Winkler offered the opportunity to update on the current state of the different Churches of Syriac tradition, as well to reflect on the ecumenical dimension of the synodal process of the Catholic Church on the theme “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission” as well as a possible contribution of the ‘Forum Syriacum’.
Reverend Father Hyacinthe Destivelle represented the PCPCU as observer. The next meeting of the ‘Forum Syriacum’ will be held in November 2022 in Rome.
Since 1994, ‘Pro Oriente’ has promoted a platform of encounter and exchange at the unofficial level for the nine Churches of the Syriac tradition. Until 2005 this was undertaken as part of the ‘Syriac Dialogue’, and since then through the ‘Forum Syriacum’, which also hosts the ‘Colloquium Syriacum’ at regular intervals.
The ‘Forum Syriacum’, a team of 15 international experts in the study of Christianity of the Syriac tradition coming from Europe, the Middle East, India and the USA, identifies and coordinates the study topics and research projects.
