Visit to Pontifical Council of German Foreign Affairs Minister

On 11 May 2021, as part of a visit to the Vatican where he was received by Pope Francis, Mr Heiko Maas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, visited the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.

The meeting with Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the PCPCU, offered an opportunity to discuss issues such as the relationship between state and religion, Judaism, and ecumenism. The challenges posed by the Covid pandemic were also at the centre of conversations.

The delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included Dr Michael Koch, Ambassador of Germany to the Holy See, Mr Andreas Peschke, Director of the Department of European Affairs, Ms Katharina Stasch, Chief of Staff and Head of Ministers’ Office, and Ms Maria Adebahr, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Reverend Father Augustinus Sander, OSB, official of the PCPCU, also took part in the meeting.
