FOR THE THEOLOGICAL DIALOGUE BETWEEN
THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AND THE ORTHODOX CHURCH

 Rome, June 4, 1992

After discussion with the Metropolitan of Pergamon, John Zizioulas, who had been sent by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, the following joint communiqué was issued, June 4, 1992. Responding to the wish of many Orthodox churches, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, in agreement with the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, has decided to postpone the meeting of the International Commission for the Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church, which had been scheduled for this coming June 17 to 26. The meeting ought to take place at the latest in June, 1993. For the concrete preparation of the next meeting it has been decided to intensify contacts with local Orthodox and Catholic Churches which need to face a new situation in order to promote together the spirit of dialogue and of collaboration in their context.
