In Memoriam Bishop Frank T. Griswold

The Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity has learned with sadness of the death on 5 March 2023 of Most Reverend Frank Griswold, former Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church.

Aged 85 and a former Bishop of Chicago, Bishop Griswold served as Presiding Bishop (Primate) of The Episcopal Church (TEC) from 1998 to 2006. Bishop Griswold was a key figure in TEC’s ecumenical work for many years, especially with the Catholic Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. He co-chaired the Anglican-Roman Catholic Theological Consultation in the USA from 1992 and 1999, and the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC II) from 1999 to 2003.
